Title: Carbon dioxide Fluxes from waters within flooded forests in the central Amazon Basin
Description: Aquatic habitats in the lowland Amazon emit large quantities of carbon dioxide (CO2). However, information on CO2 fluxes from seasonally flooded forests that constitute 80% of the surface area of aquatic environments in the lowland Amazon basin is sparse. I will talk about our recent findings from a multi-year investigation, where we measured  dissolved CO2 concentrations and fluxes between the water and atmosphere and ecological data within flooded forests of the central Amazon basin. I will discuss these results and their implications for the contribution of flooded forests to the regional CO2 evasion in the Amazon basin.

As always, there will be light snacks and beverages; please feel free to bring your lunch!
